FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

|General Questions|

What services do you offer?

We offer both hair and makeup services for special events, bridal, editorial, commercial/tv, group and one-on-one make-up lessons, and costume/Halloween makeup! Got something special in mind? We're always up for something creative!

What is your booking policy?

Both a signed agreement and a 25% retainer to secure your date/time are required at the time of booking. Depending on availability, any last-minute bookings (within 2 weeks) a signed agreement and full amount are required upon booking. This is NOT an additional fee and goes towards your total balance! The retainer is non-refundable since it is used to hold your date, and we have had to turn away any other potential clients that have inquired. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to reach out!

What brand of products do you use?

I am constantly testing out new makeup and hair products to make sure I offer the best for my clients! Currently, my kit includes my tried and true products from NARS cosmetics, MAC cosmetics, Make Up For Ever, Fenty Beauty, Laura Mercier, Makeup By Mario, Kenra, Redken, just to name a few. If you have any sensitivities to certain products/brands, don't hesitate to let me know ahead of time! I always make sure to customize the products used to fit your individual needs!

Do I need to prepare anything beforehand? What should I wear to my appointment?

Healthy skin makes for a beautiful makeup! Exfoliate and use a hydrating face mask the night before. For the morning of your makeup service, a light moisturizer is recommended. For all hair services, clients are asked to make sure to come with clean, completely dry hair (blow-dry, not air dry, if possible!). No dirty hair please! There are specific products that can be used to add texture without having dirty hair! If you have naturally textured or curly hair and want a smooth style, please make sure to get a blow-out prior to your appointment. Lastly, please do not flat iron/straighten your hair beforehand. I know this can be a lot of confusing information, so I make sure to go over all of this beforehand! But don't hesitate to ask any and all questions!

Do you offer airbrush makeup?

We want the best for our clients! So with that being said, my team and I choose not to airbrush. All the work that you see in our portfolios has been done by hand with traditional makeup. With traditional makeup, we are able to better customize to each individual client while still providing a flawless and long-lasting finish.

What areas do you service? Do you charge a travel fee? Do you have a minimum?

Although we are based in Southern California, our team travels all over for our clients (even outside of California!) Depending on the location of your event, a travel fee may be incurred. For on-site services, a $1000 spend in day-of services is required or an additional on-location fee may be incurred. When inquiring, please make sure to let us know your getting ready location so that we can give you a better idea of how much travel fees might be!

What is your cancellation policy?

The retainer is non-refundable and non-transferrable. However, we understand that things happen that are out of your control! We will do our best to accommodate should our schedule allow, but note that this is at the discrepancy of Jean Kim Makeup Artist.

What are my payment options?

Cash, Venmo, or Zelle are accepted and the final balance must be paid 2 weeks prior to date of service.

How far in advance should I book my hair and makeup team?

You should start researching your hair and makeup team at least 6-12 months before your event. Oftentimes, us artists are booked over a year in advance so don't be afraid to reach out sooner than later!

Is a preview required for my bridal hair and makeup? When should I book my preview?

To ensure that you look and feel your absolute best on your wedding day, we 1000% recommend a bridal preview. Although it is not required, a preview helps to ensure that you know exactly what you're signing up for ahead of time. That way, if there are any changes that need to be made, it can all be communicated ahead of time! Previews are reserved for brides that have already booked their wedding day services and are wanting to visualize what their wedding day glam will look like. I recommend having your preview 2-4 months prior to your wedding day! This is usually the time when brides already have the big details figured out (the dress, venue, veil or no veil, jewelry, etc.) so that we can really customize your glam to how you want to look and feel on your big day!

How much time do we need to get ready?

Bridal services typically take 60-90 minutes and bridal party services take roughly 45-55 minutes. Please note, hair styling and makeup application are considered two separate services. Our team arrives 15-30 minutes prior to the start time for setup. A detailed timeline will be sent to you and your coordinator 1-2 weeks prior to your wedding date - this timeline is based off of your photographer and/or wedding coordinator.

Do you work with a team?

We have a list of specific professional Hair Stylists and Makeup Artists that are contracted out for each event that requires more than 6 services. Each of these Artists are personally vetted by Jean Kim and chosen depending on the client's specific style and needs. When inquiring about large parties (>6 services), please note that advanced notice of at least 3 months is required to ensure the availability of the appropriate number of artists/stylists for your special day! If you have any uncertainties, let us know and we can figure it out together!

How much do you charge for bridal services and do you offer any packages?

Every bride is unique as is their style for their wedding day makeup and hair. Pricing can vary depending on the number of services (hair and/or makeup), location/travel, if early or late start time is required, etc. We can send you a custom proposal upon request!
